Team Lapua’s own Cathy Winstead-Severin showcased her exceptional shooting skills, claiming first place at the challenging Iron Man Silhouette Championship held in Missoula, Montana, on June 7-8. Winstead-Severin emerged victorious from a field of top-tier competitors, proving her mastery in the demanding discipline of metallic silhouette rifle shooting. Winstead-Severin’s impressive victory was complemented by fellow team Lapua Member Erich Mietenkorte’s 2nd place score in the same Iron Man Silhouette Championship match.

The 2025 Iron Man Silhouette Championship in Missoula, Montana, is a metallic silhouette rifle shooting competition hosted by the Hellgate Civilian Shooters Association (HCSA) at the Deep Creek Rifle Range. It’s known as a demanding event that tests precision marksmanship and endurance. Competitors typically fire two 40-shot smallbore silhouette matches in the morning, followed by two 40-shot high-power silhouette matches in the afternoon, over two days.

Winstead-Severin strategically utilized her ammunition to gain an edge. For the Ram silhouette targets, she relied on Berger 109 grain Long Range Hybrid Target. Whereas, for the chicken, pig, and turkey targets, she turned to her trusted Lapua 90 grain Scenar-L ammunition, a testament to its consistent performance. For the smallbore portion of the Silhouette Championships, Winstead-Severin relied on Midas + that was matched to her rifle at the Lapua Rimfire Performance Test Center.

“I always love shooting up in Missoula, at this range, which is tucked into the mountains surrounded with family, longtime friends and the smell of pine. With the match being double what is normally shot in a day, it is named the Iron Man for a reason,” stated Winstead-Severin “It tests you mentally and physically. Thanks to everything coming together this year, for the match, I was able to capture the win with the help of Lapua products and of course my dad, who is my spotter. Looking forward to a summer full of more shooting and more great memories on the range.”
